In My long, varied, and probably sometimes meddlesome career of horticultural contacts and garden experiences, I have not often seen things fit together so well as they did when I learned that Miss Wertsner was preparing a little book on home decorations entitled Make Your Own Merry Christmas.
All her activities and experience in the years of my acquaintance made me feel that she could do this particular job exceptionally well, since she knows exactly what she is talking about.
For a number of years Miss Wertsner has served The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, of which I happen to be Extension Committee chairman, as Field Secretary and Flower Show Director.
She has also had wide experience and visited many gardens, not only in Pennsylvania but elsewhere. Many times the Society has had to "lend" her to other states wanting the kind of thing she teaches so well.
She always served them with satisfaction, carrying progressive Pennsylvania thought to the states close to us, New York, New Jersey and Maryland, and also brought our ideas to many other states, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, and Illinois, to name a few.
Because I have watched her work and sometimes participated in what she was planning to write, I can heartily commend what she here has to say on making Christmas more vital through the use of the many decorations which are so readily available.
